This past summer, MEDI, in conjunction with Colorado State University, completed its second national Executive Coaching Survey of healthcare executives. This year’s results revealed some rather interesting and surprising findings. We are still in the process of analyzing the results but wanted to share some of the basic data with you to aid you in evaluating how executive coaching can be used in your leadership development programs for senior leaders.
• 56% of the respondents report having used an executive coach. There continues to be an increasing number of executives turning to executive coaching as a way to raise the bar on their leadership skills.
• 72% of the respondents were either very or extremely satisfied with their coaching experience
• 91% of the respondents would recommend executive coaching to others
• 97% of the respondents saw improvement in the areas in which the coaching was focused
• Respondents estimated that the return on investment was between 6-10 times
• Respondents reported that the average cost of executive coaching was $48,000
The top four reasons the respondents sought a coach were:
1. Increase self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses
2. Increase leadership effectiveness
3. Develop or enhance competencies
4. Receive constructive feedback and observation
